This page collects the most common questions from Trezor users — whether you are just unboxing your device for the first time, evaluating which model to buy, or troubleshooting a transaction. Browse the sections below to find quick, accurate answers. If you need further help, visit trezor.io/support.

Getting Started

Navigate to trezor.io/start on your computer. From there, download and install Trezor Suite — the official desktop and web app for managing your device. Once installed, open Trezor Suite, plug in your Trezor, and follow the on-screen setup wizard. The wizard walks you through firmware installation, PIN creation, and generating your recovery seed phrase.
Both models deliver the same core security — your private keys are generated and stored entirely offline on the device.
  • Trezor Model One — compact, affordable, and ideal for users who want reliable security for Bitcoin and the most popular cryptocurrencies.
  • Trezor Model T — features a colour touchscreen for easier on-device navigation and supports a broader range of coins and advanced features such as Shamir Backup.
If you are new to hardware wallets and primarily hold Bitcoin or Ethereum, the Model One is an excellent starting point. If you hold a wide variety of assets or prefer touchscreen interaction, choose the Model T.
No account is required. Trezor is a self-custodial device, meaning you — and only you — control your private keys. You do not register with Trezor, and no personal information is linked to your wallet. Simply set up your device and start using it.

Security

Without your PIN, a thief cannot access your funds. Every time someone enters an incorrect PIN, the wait time before the next attempt doubles. After 16 consecutive wrong PIN entries, the device wipes itself completely. Your funds remain safe on the blockchain and can be restored on a new device using your recovery seed phrase.
Your recovery seed phrase — the 12 or 24 words generated during setup — is the master key to your wallet. Anyone who obtains your seed phrase can access your funds from any device, anywhere in the world. Write it down on paper or stamp it into metal, store it in a secure offline location, and never share it with anyone. Trezor support will never ask for it.
Only purchase a Trezor from trezor.io/shop or an authorized reseller listed on the official website. When your device arrives, inspect the box for the holographic security seal — if it is broken or missing, do not use the device. A genuine Trezor always displays a blank setup screen on first boot; it will never arrive with a pre-loaded seed phrase or PIN.
No. Your private keys are generated and stored entirely on the Trezor hardware — they never leave the device in an unencrypted form. Because the device is offline when not actively signing a transaction, remote attackers have no pathway to access your keys. Even if your computer is compromised by malware, your funds remain protected as long as you verify transaction details on the Trezor screen before confirming.

Coins & Transactions

The full, up-to-date list of supported cryptocurrencies is available at trezor.io/coins. Trezor supports thousands of assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and ERC-20 tokens, as well as many altcoins. Coin support can also vary between the Model One and Model T, so check the list before making a purchasing decision.
Yes. You can connect your Trezor as a hardware signer directly inside MetaMask. In MetaMask, select Connect Hardware Wallet, choose Trezor, and follow the prompts. Once connected, all Ethereum and EVM-compatible transaction signing happens on your Trezor device — MetaMask handles the interface, but your keys never leave the hardware.
Transaction speed depends on the blockchain network, not on your Trezor device. During periods of high network congestion, transactions with lower fees can take longer to be confirmed by miners or validators. To check the status of your transaction, copy the transaction ID (TXID) from Trezor Suite and paste it into the relevant block explorer (for example, mempool.space for Bitcoin or etherscan.io for Ethereum). If the fee was too low, some wallets allow fee bumping via Replace-By-Fee (RBF) for Bitcoin transactions.

Recovery

Your funds are not stored on the device — they live on the blockchain. If you lose your Trezor, purchase a new one from trezor.io/shop or an authorized reseller, then open Trezor Suite and choose Restore from seed phrase. Enter your 12 or 24 recovery words in the correct order, and your wallet — including all accounts and balances — will be fully restored.
If you lose your seed phrase and your Trezor device is lost, stolen, or wiped, your funds become permanently unrecoverable. There is no backdoor, password reset, or support escalation that can retrieve them. This is why securing your seed phrase is the single most critical step in using any hardware wallet. Store it offline in at least two separate, secure locations.
If your device is still functional but your seed phrase is lost, transfer your funds to a new wallet immediately and generate a fresh seed phrase.
No. Trezor is a fully self-custodial solution. Trezor’s support team has zero access to your private keys, seed phrase, PIN, or wallet balances. They can help you troubleshoot software and device issues, but they cannot view, move, or recover your funds on your behalf. This is a feature, not a limitation — it means no third party can ever be compromised to access your assets.
